Transform the overlooked and the everyday into expressive, textured prints in this playful, eco-friendly collagraph printmaking workshop.
In this 3 hour session, you’ll uncover the creative potential hidden inside materials we usually throw away. Using simple, low-tech methods and everyday recycled materials, you’ll learn how to build richly textured printing plates and bring them to life through both hand burnishing and printing on an etching press. You’ll explore how humble materials — cardboard packaging, juice cartons, textured papers, tapes, labels and more can be transformed into striking relief prints full of character and depth.
All tools and materials are provided, and no experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to play!
The workshop will cover: designing and building a relief collagraph plate; techniques for gluing, sealing and preparing your plate for printing; inking and wiping methods to bring out texture and contrast; hand burnishing using simple tools for low tech printing at home; printing your plate on an etching press for crisp, detailed impressions; adding colour and variation through layering, masking and selective inking
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a small collection of your own collagraph prints and your handmade collagraph plate to continue exploring at home, with fresh inspiration for sustainable, low waste creativity.
Please bring: Any images, sketches or inspiration you may wish to work from. An apron and wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy!
