Description
Josh Hughes and Joel Redfern are a classical guitar duo from the North of England that are now called ‘The J2 Duo’. They formed at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) at the beginning of 2023. Josh and Joel recently graduated under the tutelage of internationally renowned classical guitarist Craig Ogden. The duo also received regular coaching from Rory Russell, who was a former member of the award-winning Aquarelle Guitar Quartet for many years.
With a wide variety of music in their repertoire, the J2Duo perform works by composers including Debussy, Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Piazzolla. They often perform pieces which were not originally composed for the guitar, bringing a new dimension to the music they perform. Joel has a particular interest in arranging and transcribing pieces for the duo to expand the guitar’s repertoire.
The duo has frequently given public appearances at the RNCM Concert Hall, the Carol Nash Recital Room, Buxton Opera House and increasingly for music societies and festivals around the UK.
