Description
Raku Glazing and Firing Experience
Fire. Smoke. Shock. Magic. 2 hours of fiery fun.
In this workshop you will be introduced to one of the most exciting and dramatic ceramic processes and this is your chance to be right in the middle of it.
In just two hours, you’ll glaze a beautiful studio thrown pot, then take part in the full Raku firing process. Watch as your piece glows red-hot at over 1000°C, is lifted from the kiln, set alight, and transformed in a rush of flames, smoke and crackle. Then comes the reveal — cleaning back the surface to uncover patterns and colours that are completely unique — no two results are ever the same.
Studio thrown pots and raku glazes are provided, and the resulting special pot is yours to take home.
Please note: This process involves a lot of smoke and may not be suitable for some people with respiratory issues. It is possible to move away from the outside area during this part of the process and retreat to the studio or cafe.
Participants will be provided with PPE, but will need coats as the firing is outside. There is a covered area in case of rain.
