Back with an extended run, the ever popular Goosfest Lunchtime Concert showcases the words and music of Rodgers and Hammerstein.
For sixteen years, composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II wrote their own ticket into the Broadway Hall of Fame, taking audiences from Oklahoma to the South Pacific to the court of Siam and, finally to those Austrian hills so alive with “you-know-what”! Their unique collaboration changed the face of American musical theatre by integrating the elements of drama, music and dance as never before.
The ever popular Goosfest Lunchtime Concert returns with a showcase of songs from their most famous musicals and films. From Oklahoma!’s ‘Oh What a Beautiful Morning’ and Carousel’s ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, through ‘Getting to Know You’ and ’I Whistle a Happy Tune’ from The King and I and South Pacific’s ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ and ‘Honey Bun’, to the simply majestic ‘’Climb Every Mountain from The Sound of Music, you will bathe in a delicious panoply of words and music so familiar to everyone that it will feel as if you were born with their music in your very DNA!
Along the way we will introduce you to these two most remarkable of men who, together, became the benchmark of musical theatre for two decades. Whilst we entertain you, enjoy a two-course lunch in the idyllic, church-side setting of Cheshire’s Swettenham Arms.
Previous years have seen this annual musical lunch oversubscribed so early booking is a must to avoid disappointment!
