Joel Gardener – singer songwriter (support act Chris Tavener)

Goosfest is always thrilled to bring the very best emerging talent into our programme and this year we have someone who is already going places and making a name for himself. Joel Gardner is a singer-songwriter based in the Northwest who writes and performs at the highest level. He is a skilled and confident guitarist and singer, drawing influence from instrumentalists such as Andy Mckee and John Gomm. Joel’s songs emerge from elaborate, groove orientated guitar work. His music transcends its traditional roots with a modern twist.

With a live show honed by relentless gigging, Joel won the ‘Danny Kyle Award’ at Celtic Connections; won Wath (Rotherham) Festival’s ‘Young Performer of the Year Award’ and Manchester’s Got Busker Talent in 2017. His successes have seen him support Mull Historical Society and Bernard Butler, Brian Kennedy, All the Luck in the World and US chart-topping band ‘The Revivalists’ on their UK tour.

In addition to Joel we have support provided by Chris Tavener. Chris is a Manchester based satirical songwriter who has certainly mastered the craft of writing and performing songs that are full of wit and clever humour that tell stories that resonate with the audience.

His songs have won him acclaim from BBC 6 Music and multiple BBC introducing stations. He is popular for his theatrical live performance which has seen him sharing the stage with Super Hans, Tony Hadley and Peter Hook while also writing songs for the likes of Sir Ian McKellen. He has performed at Glastonbury Festival, The Great Escape, Latitude Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2018 he released his first live album and embarked on a European tour through France, Germany and the Netherlands. A UK tour with Gavin Osborn soon followed. He has appeared at the Lowry Theatre for BBC Radio Manchester’s Christmas Extravaganza.
