Into The Woods! – A guided walk through the Lovell Quinta Arboretum, Swettenham
This guided walk around the Lovell Quinta Arboretum in Swettenham will explain the past, present and future of this amazing and beautiful gem of nature at its best. Once the private project of the late Professor Sir Bernard Lovell of Jodrell Bank fame, the arboretum is home to three national collections of tree species including many rare and unusual specimens.
Sir Bernard, a keen horticulturist, planned features in his arboretum to celebrate life events. The Reith Avenue of red-twigged limes commemorates his Reith lectures, commissioned by the BBC in the 1950s, while the Franklin area was planted to celebrate his award of the Benjamin Franklin medal in 1980.
The site is now owned by the Tatton Garden Society, who with a team of volunteers under curator Rhoderic Taylor have continued to develop and maintain this beautiful location.
Whether you’re interested in horticulture, local history or simply enjoy a stroll through a beautiful setting with knowledgeable guides, then this is the perfect Autumn excursion.
