Goostrey Goes to Spain
Smell the paella and unfurl your fans! This year, Goostrey is going to Spain for a special Goosfest evening. We’ve arranged a heady combination of a delicious Spanish supper, followed by some powerful entertainment by a flamenco dancer, a guitarist and a Spanish singer.
Glenn Sharp and Chico Pere are the two founding members of ‘Calaita Flamenco Son’, based in the UK and Spain. They perform a combination of traditional flamenco palos (styles) and contemporary ‘rumbas’. Seville-born flamenco singer Chico often writes the lyrics to their songs, based on his life experiences, growing up in Triana-Seville in a family of flamenco musicians and singers.
Glenn Sharp is a session musician, composer and producer on the world music scene. A guitarist who specialises in traditional acoustic music (flamenco and arabic in particular), he has performed and studied traditional music worldwide. Glenn composes and performs production music for film, TV and other media.
They are joined by flamenco dancer and flamenco events organiser Sarah Chambers, who has studied with many leading dancers from Spain over the years, including La Lupi, Olga Pericet, Maricarmen Guerrero and Pilar Fajardo. Her performances are authentic flamenco including a wide range of traditional styles from serious to light-hearted musical forms, with pounding rhythms to accompany the haunting melodies.
The pre-show supper is provided by specialist Spanish caterer Su Casa, including a choice of Paella de Carne or a vegetarian paella, with Tapas Canapés. Come dressed in bright Mediterranean colours, and if your outfit is given a Spanish touch, so much the better. Olé!
